Music Therapy

As a music therapist, I am passionate about helping people reach their goals and potential. My approach is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and humanistic, meaning that I centre people, their autonomy, and believe each person has a set of strengths that can help them move through the world. I feel my approach is informed by CBT, sociology, physiology, and anti-oppressive theories. I graduated from Capilano University with a Bachelor’s in Music Therapy in 2022 and have worked with a variety of people from cradle to grave, each person having their own unique story and set of abilities. Prior to that I was a Cardiology Technologist working in tertiary hospitals and emergency. Life has brought me many experiences, but the commonality in all of these, is my desire to help.

What is music therapy? Music therapy is a set of tools, theories, and approaches that use music to attain non-music related goals. Sounds complicated right? It’s not. I use music to attain non-music related goals like: developing gross motor skills (walking, and jumping for example), fine motor skills (like writing, and drawing), developing social skills (sharing for example), developing communication skills (both verbal and body language), and helping with emotions (like helping the body and mind to learn coping skills during difficult times). I could talk forever about how this is done, but I think I am running out of space to write, so if you are interested in learning how music therapy can help you or someone you care about, please feel free to reach out for a complimentary consult.
