Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)?

A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is a regulated healthcare professional who assesses and treats communication challenges. This includes speech sounds, language development, social communication, fluency (stuttering), and feeding/swallowing skills.

What ages do you work with?

We work with children from infancy through adolescence. Early support can be especially helpful, but it’s never too late to build communication skills.

How do I know if my child needs Speech Therapy?

You may consider an assessment if your child:

  • Is difficult to understand for their age
  • Uses fewer words than peers
  • Has trouble following directions
  • Struggles to form sentences
  • Stutters or repeats sounds
  • Has difficulty interacting with others

If you’re unsure, a consultation can help determine next steps.

What happens during an assessment?

An assessment typically includes:

  • Parent interview and history
  • Play-based or structured activities with your child
  • Standardized testing (if appropriate)

You’ll receive a summary of findings along with recommendations and next steps.
